2PM Architects designed this single storey rear extension and interior refurbishment to a terraced house in London's Muswell Hill in 2010.
The proposal is designed to create a new larger kitchen and living space and to flood the space with light giving a feeling of brightness and space. This is acheived through the use of glazed rooflights and a strip of glazed clerestory window separating the wall of the existing house with the new extension.
The new extension itself is designed to provide a small dining area / garden room with sliding glass doors leading out on to a new terrace and the existing garden. A new soft seating area is also created adjacent to the kitchen space in keeping with the client's idea of the kitchen being the heart of their home.
Careful consideration was also paid to the lighting design to ensure that as well as being full of light during the day the space would also be beautifully lit at night creating a warm, inviting space for entertaining.
